So how do you increase search traffic? The simple answer is to create high-quality backlinks. Building backlinks is one of the best strategies to boost traffic and domain authority. As a website owner, you must learn how to get backlinks to your website.

The more links you create, the more traffic you will receive from search engines. So how do you create high-quality backlinks to your blogs? Before diving into the details, let’s discuss the basics first.

Backlinks: What They Are and Why You Need Them

Backlinks are links on websites other than yours that go back to a page on your website. Backlinks are also called inbound links because they represent another website’s traffic coming to your site. The quality and quantity of your backlinks can help you rank higher in search engines such as Google and Bing.

Backlinks are considered an indicator of how popular your website is with users. Implementing, managing, and analyzing the performance of backlinks is an essential aspect of search engine optimization (SEO) and SEO strategies.

Why Do You Need Backlinks to Your Website?

Backlinks are the pivotal factors in Google’s ranking algorithm, and a single backlink to the right website can boost your website’s rankings. It has been seen that the leading search engine uses backlinks to identify the authoritativeness of a website. This means if your website has a lot of backlinks from authoritative websites, you are more likely to rank higher. Here’s why you need backlinks to your website.

Getting backlinks for your website is one of the factors Google and other search engines use to determine your search engine optimization (SEO) ranking. Backlinks also foster brand recognition by reaching people who might not be aware of your business.

What’ll empower you to improve your website’s domain authority when you know how to get backlinks to your website?

What is Domain Authority?

Domain Authority is one of the most important SEO metrics. Yet, more than half of the marketers do not even know what it is. In this blog, I will look at the definition of Domain Authority and how it is calculated, how it can be used, how to increase your DA, etc.

You are probably wrong, even if you think you know what domain authority is. Domain Authority is a complicated topic, and the definition can change depending on who you talk to. This blog will give you a basic understanding of what domain authority is and how you can use it.

When high domain authority websites link to your website, it tells the search engine crawlers that your linked-to website is valuable. It would help if you had high-quality backlinks to improve visibility on search engine results pages (SERP).

How To Create High-Quality Backlinks To Your Blog in 2022 (10 new strategies)

Here are 10 of the most practical tips to get you started as you consider how to get backlinks to your website. Let’s get right into the techniques.

1. Become a Source For Reporters and Bloggers

Reaching out to other bloggers whenever you publish a valuable blog post is the surefire way to get high-quality incoming links to your content.

It means that you must be able to create eye-catching and helpful content first. People will actively want to link you as a trusted source when you have the correct range. In this way, you can become a source for reporters and bloggers.

So to get the most out of this blogger, mention a strategy to build quality links, start linking to other bloggers, and do it frequently and consistently. Make sure to send an email to every blogger you link to.

That way, they will know that you have linked to their posts, and frequently sending emails to them after merging will also persuade them to start linking to your posts. That’s how you get incoming links from other bloggers to your blog’s content.

2. Help a Reporter Out (HARO)

To rank on the first page of Google, you need to build backlinks from authority news sites and blogs. (I’m talking about white hat links from authority news sites and blogs.) Fortunately, this isn’t as hard as it sounds. All you need to do is use a free service called Help a Reporter Out (HARO).

HARO is like Tinder for public relations. It connects people that need sources (bloggers and journalists) to people that want links and exposure (you). HARO nowadays has become one of the significant sources of getting quality backlinks. Before going into depth, I want to introduce HARO briefly.

It is a short form of “Help A Reporter Out” (HARO). It is an online platform that helps journalists get feedback from the public to use in their stories and allows you to get media coverage for your brand. You generate backlinks on authoritative news sites, and reporters get relevant content.

Here is how to get backlinks to your website from HARO:

  •  Sign up as a source on HARO’s homepage and select a pricing plan. Journalists are always looking for expert opinions to include in their articles.

  •  Check your email three times a day, from Monday to Friday. HARO will send you a list of articles for which the reporters need information.

  •  Look for articles that cover your area of interest. You won’t be able to respond to every single query.

  •  Send in your pitch. Include your answer, your contact information, and a link to your website.

You are not guaranteed a backlink from every HARO query you respond to, but you will likely get a backlink for most of the responses reporters use. It is also an opportunity to get free referral traffic.

3. Publish “Skyscraper” Content

A piece of Skyscraper content will put you ahead of your competitors. First, find a piece of content in your industry that’s already performed well (in terms of backlinks). You can do this most efficiently, like a simple Google Search.

Please pay attention to the page ranking on the first page; many people have probably linked to it. Next, create a piece of content that’s 5-10x better than what you just found. If you can pull this off, the content will automatically attract backlinks simply because you are the best content available online.

4. Build Links From Outdated Resources

Slightly different than broken link building is the practice of link reclamation, where you fix or “reclaim” links that once pointed at your site. These links point to pages on your website that no longer exist. You can either 301 redirect or fix these links on your end or ask the webmaster to change the link.

Other types of problems that you can also fix by asking the web admin to change/add your links are:

  •  Non-linking brand mentions: It’s sometimes common and easy to find others writing about your site without linking. Often a simple email to the author is enough to secure a link.

  •  Non-linking images: Instead of filing a copyright or DMCA takedown notice, this presents a terrific opportunity to earn a link. The way this works is to contact the website that has used the image and tell them that the image belongs to you and that you love that they’ve used it, but would they mind giving you a credit link in exchange for using it?

5: Use Content Formats Proven To Generate Links

According to lots of SEO ranking factor studies, long-form content tends to perform better in Google than in short articles. Thus, comprehensive guides tend to contain a lot of content on a single page. So your guide can be the “go-to” resource for a topic, and people will link to it whenever they write about that topic on their blog.

In addition, the content format is also important. In other words, if you want to get backlinks, focus on these content formats:

  • “Why” Posts
  • “What” posts
  • Infographics
  • Videos

Am I saying: “Just publish a bunch of why posts and infographics?”

Of course not.

If you want to get backlinks today, your content has to be excellent.

But these formats give you a starting point for writing amazing content that works.

6: Publish Ultimate Guides

You already know that the only way to move your site to the top of Google is to build high-quality backlinks (and lots of them).

That much is clear.

But HOW do you get other sites to link to you?

The answer is through Ultimate Guides

Why do Ultimate Guides work so well?

First, comprehensive guides tend to contain A LOT of content on a single page.

According to lots of SEO ranking factor studies, long-form content tends to perform better in Google than in short articles. Also, ultimate guides cover an entire topic on a single page.

And because your guide is the “go-to” resource for a topic, people will link to it whenever they write about that topic on their blog.

Here’s exactly how to create an ultimate guide, step-by-step.

1: Your first step is to find a topic for your guide.
This is important.

You want to choose a popular topic that hasn’t been covered to death already.

For example, when I published my link-building guide, I noticed the first page of Google had some helpful posts but no ultimate guides.

I also considered writing an ultimate guide to SEO. But there were already a thousand guides on that topic.

2: Next, outline your ultimate guide.
Just list out subtopics that make up your larger topic.

For example, for my link-building guide, I simply listed out subtopics like this:

  • What is link building?
  • Black hat SEO
  • White hat SEO
  • Anchor text
  • Content
  • Email outreach
  • Advanced tips

3: Lastly, write your Ultimate Guide.

And remember:

Don’t be afraid to cover everything there is to know about a topic.

That way, your guide will be seen as the definitive resource.

7: Use Branded Strategies and Techniques

Follow the following steps to use Branded Strategies and Techniques

1: Develop a Unique Strategy, Tip or Tactic

This sounds harder than it is.

All you need to do is come up with a strategy that has SOMETHING unique about it.

Derek Halpern puts it best:

You may not have unique ingredients, but you’ve got a unique recipe.

And that unique recipe is all that matters.

People have been using broken link-building as part of their link-building campaigns for years.

Make sure that the links weren’t necessarily broken (as in, they didn’t necessarily show a 404 error).

2: Next, name your strategy

Just make sure the name describes what your strategy does.

Other than that, try to use one of these words in your strategy name:

  • Method
  • Technique
  • Approach
  • System
  • Blueprint

3: Publish the strategy as part of a blog post

Your last step is to show people that your new strategy works.

Publish your strategy in the form of a blog post. Preferably a case study.

(That way, people have something to link to when they reference your technique.)

The strategy is an asset that can result in lots of backlinks.

8: Authority Resource Pages

Resource pages are a link builder’s dream. They’re pages that exist solely to link out to other sites.

How can you get links from resource pages?

Like every strategy in this article, I’ll walk you through the step-by-step process:

First, you need to find resource pages.

These can be tricky to find. Very few people call their resource page a “resource page”.

Instead, people tend to describe their pages with terms like:

“helpful resources”

“useful resources”

“further reading”

“additional resources”

So to find these pages, you just need to search for these terms plus a keyword.

Second, now that you’ve found a resource page, it’s time to reach out and (nicely) ask for a link.

After you've got the email script that will be the starting point. The more you personalize your outreach emails, the more links you’ll get.

9: Check Out Your Competitors’ Backlinks

As an entrepreneur, you probably know that it’s important to gather as much information as possible about your competitors.

This empowers you as a blogger to decide if the most effective SEO digital marketing techniques that work for them will do the same for you. Spying on your competitor's link-building strategies can give you ideas about how to get backlinks to your website.

Analyze your competitors’ strategies by:

  • Identifying their resource page links and determining which websites you can connect to.
  • Creating a Google alert for when they publish new content. This lets you monitor backlinks to their websites.
  • I'm following them on social media.
  • Subscribe to their newsletters to learn what strategies they implement in their business.

10: Legitimize Your Website

Content marketing requires you to prove to your visitors that your website is trustworthy. They want to feel safe interacting with your website.

Here are a few ways to legitimize your website and give the right impression to your visitors:

  • Prove that you are a real business by including your phone number and address on your contact page. You can also post profile photos of you and your employees.
  • Cultivate a professional appearance. Avoid cluttering your web pages with unnecessary elements like sponsored ads. Ensure your images and graphics are high-quality, and the layout and typography are clean.
  • Correct errors. Misspelled words or images that don’t load properly can lower your website’s credibility. Remove broken links as they give the impression of a neglected website.
  • Add trust badges to show that your business partners are trusted industry experts and your website is secure.
  • Update content to show your visitors you’re an active business.

When it comes to building backlinks, you can use any of the strategies above. The winning edge in search engine results pages (SERPs) goes to marketers who know how to implement these backlink-building techniques.

Now that you know how to get backlinks to your website, ensure you are not violating Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. Avoid paying for links or participating in illegal link schemes.

Get authoritative websites to link to your website and you’ll generate conversions and improve your SEO.
